Shirley Valentine

A touching comedy about a middle-aged woman who seizes an opportunity to break out of the mold society has cast for her.  Her holiday in Greece leads her to a new lease on life, and a renewal of hope and self-confidence.  Shirley’s rebirth is brilliantly depicted with humor, warmth and human insight.

Nixon’s Nixon    
by Russell Lees

Explore what might have gone through the infamous President’s addled mind the night before his famous departure from the White House.  In this satirical comedy, we listen in on a clandestine meeting between Nixon and his testy Secretary of State, Kissinger, as they each jockey for position at any political price.

Bell, Book and Candle                
by John Van Druten

A sparkling romantic comedy with supernatural overtones, set in the heart of New York City.  A beautiful art shop owner, also skilled in sorcery, unexpectedly falls hard for a hapless visitor to her store on Christmas Eve.   Romantic complications abound, as he tries to resist falling under her spell.

The Giver                       
by Lois Lowry

In a seemingly utopian society of the future, we meet young Jonas, who has been selected to inherit a special position – Receiver of Memory.  Through the aging incumbent, Jonas is given memories of things that have been eliminated in his world: violence, sadness and loss.  He grows to see that a society free of pain, based on “sameness”, robs the living of any emotional depth.

Shadowlands                                         
by William Nicholson

The deeply moving and beautiful love story of C.S. Lewis, author of Chronicles of Narnia, and Joy Gresham, his American fan.  Lewis finds his life rejuvenated by Gresham, but must struggle with his beliefs that suffering should be endured with patience when he loses his new found love to cancer.

Once again, the “dessert” of the season!  A delightful, dynamic, original musical revue performed by some of Portland’s finest.
